With the one-day workshop “House Meetings” we want to improve the quality of service delivery for residents of large residential centres (LRCs). Our aim is to give voice to residents of LRCs so that they are better engaged in the day to day running of where they live and what they do. CDAH acts as a resource and support for the staff of LRCs to raise awareness of the needs and rights of the residents. Some of the questions we discuss during the training are:
How can we assist someone to have ‘a voice’ when they do not communicate in a conventional way?
How can we assist someone to become ‘more engaged’ in running their homes?
How can we ensure that we have enough time and resources to run house meetings in a meaningful way?
The participants of this workshop will learn how to be alert to any attempts to interact and how to include people in the conversation. Just because someone can’t talk doesn't mean they have nothing to say.
